We, u-blox Italy, explained to our colleagues around the world.

U-blox claims to be a multi-cultural company and this is for sure a value, a great opportunity to meet different stories and cultures. Understanding each other may not always be so easy, because of that. So let me help understanding what’s going here in Sgonico, Trieste, Italy, from labor point of view.

There are a few assumptions that you should know.

The Constitution.

The first article of our Constitution states: “Italy is a democratic Republic, founded on labor”. So I can say the the best definition of a company is “a set of persons that with their work make a better society”. In other words you cannot separate companies and society.

The Labor Rights.

We have a long story of fights for workers’ labor rights and we keep it ongoing. We firmly believe that a worker is first of all a person; respect to him is due not only because it is ethically right, but because it is its own Right to be respected.

The Loyalty.

Despite some cliché on latin lovers, we’re loyal. Particularly if we talk about work. Persons want to stay in their company. It’s often considered a second home. You know, even in hard times last December we decided to collect free offers to have the opportunity to celebrate together Xmas and the end of the year. And yes, we did it.

These are just some of the reasons why we are committed defend our job.

Respect.

It worth to mention something about this, to understand why we’re angry.

We’ve been informed with a smoky email that our job would not exist anymore. No one came to us and told that, explaining company’s plans. Sorry, this is not respect.

We have been told less than one month before that Connect (which is including CEL) would be at break even in 2026. Except Xmas vacation nothing happened in the middle. So it seems that decision was already taken. Sorry again, this is not respect.

Now the most difficult to understand and accept, I know. I’m sure that 99% of u-blox Italy employees have done their duty as expected. The remaining 1% (if exists) in any case cannot have such an impact to put company in trouble. So either someone else made these mistakes or is the “hard market rule”. Assuming that only we ended in such kind of difficulties, the cause is some internal mistake, and, as we have heard in the last staff meeting, our CEO admitted he (and EC as well) mistook. So, there is no respect in asking someone to pay for errors made by others.

The sign in the picture says “Work for parents… future for us (kids)”. For him, for our girls and boys, for our families, for a better society, we will keep fighting.

Versione italiana qui.
