“About 140” people out of 195, decreasing, of course: those who find an alternative, leave and will leave. 75 days of searching for alternative solutions (acquisition by third parties, possible) or agreements (unlikely the company will change its mind) and then the laidoff letters can be sent out.

50 of them will remain for an indefinite period, a handful, as the liquidator defined it on the first day, who will support the activities that the stepmother’s house intends to carry on anyway:

  • customer support for products in the field, they can’t avoid that. “they”, yes I mean them as something else, now every relationship of trust is definitely broken.
  • continue to do business with the products designed by the company that they have decided to close with the people who, if not immediately, will in turn be fired as soon as they are no longer needed.
  • continue some activities that do not have to do directly with the branch they decided to prune and that had been started or developed here because this is one of the sites where the work costs less.

Show must go on! Yep, the company will close, many will be fired but business continues, production will continue, they will make money anyway. Incredibly, the business that they (falsely) declared to be definitively at a loss, suddenly, thanks to the purge, will become profitable for a while.
In essence, it is about exploiting about fifty people sentenced to death. Sentenced to death but, mind you, guilty of nothing. Victims of the illogical choices of others.

Continuando con la stessa metafora, in questa lugubre commedia, possiamo dire che i personaggi sono: una giuria autonominata che giudica altri per i crimini da essa stessa commessi, un giudice scelto dalla stessa giuria e responsabile dei medesimi crimini in giudizio, gli imputati privati da ogni diritto reale di difesa ed il boia che azionerà la ghigliottina centoquaranta volte. Circa centoquaranta volte, ci mancherebbe. Ciascuno e ciascuna di questi personaggi ha un nome ed un cognome, se avrete pazienza, li conoscerete tutti.
